Song Title: Superman Tonight
Artist: Bon Jovi
Carl looked at the woman on the balcony, thinking that this reminded him somewhat of Romeo and Juliet. He knew her as the girl whose house had a balcony, but he did not know her name. He was too rational to think he was in love, but in fact, he was, he just didn’t know it yet. She sat by the balcony, and he could just make out the white of her dress through the slats of concrete. She was crying, her soft sobs reaching his ears. By moonlight, her skin looked paler than in the daytime, almost paper-white, like her dress. Had she been left at the altar? A white dress in this small town meant only one thing: a marriage.
He longed to comfort her, but knew that such an action was unthinkable. He was not acquainted with her, and she was up high, much too unreachable. He stared for a long time, aware he was creating a memory. A memory of a nameless young woman from his hometown, crying her heart out on a balcony.
It was in the news next morning, when he was miles away from that town, that the young woman, Julia, had killed herself.
